| DOUBLE-STOREY HOUSE WITH A SWIMMING POOL |

This luxury residence is located in a newly developed area, west of Nicosia. The plot is a rectangular shape, facing in the east-west direction and particular emphasis had to be given the arranging of the various internal areas, so that they were not only fully operational but also utilised to the utmost the natural heat, light and ventilation of the area, for energy saving purposes and for providing maximum comfort. 

The external area is designed in such way to provide relaxation and relief from the hectic and tiring life of the city. A large swimming pool is located to the south side of the house. The exterior areas include a specially-designed barbecue and bar area which is shaded for sun protection while greenery and hanging plants located in the wall and fence openings to create a green garden aesthetic and a buffer from the neighbouring houses. The garden environment uses a wide colour palate to create both harmony and contrast between architecture and nature.

The interior is designed with simple and clear lines. The change of floor levels distinguishes the various uses without the positioning of natural barriers and walls, proving light and a sense of openness without compromising privacy. The uniqueness of this residence is that it gives the sense of a single space encompassing the full length and width of the ground floor.  Inside, the individual living areas and office in the ground floor and the sleeping areas on the first floor are structured along the main staircase which acts as the central connector to all the areas of the house. 

Special attention has been given to the construction materials and the creation of interesting textures, such as stone, plaster and glass. A large section of the south side of the building is built from large glass panels, which can be opened fully to allow the garden to penetrate in the internal areas of the house. The transparency in the ground floor enhances the contrast with the simple white composition of the first floor and the large stone wall. Important architectural details are the imposing sloped roofs, demonstrating the dynamic of the house.

| ΔΙΩΡΟΦΗ ΚΑΤΟΙΚΙΑ ΜΕ ΠΙΣΙΝΑ |

Η κατοικία βρίσκεται σε ένα νεόδμητο αστικό περιβάλλον δυτικά της Λευκωσίας. Το ορθογώνιο σε σχήμα οικόπεδο έχει μήκος επί τον άξονα ανατολής – δύσης. Επομένως, ιδιαίτερη σημασία δόθηκε στη διαρρύθμιση των διάφορων εσωτερικών χωρών, έτσι ώστε να είναι όχι μόνο πλήρως λειτουργικοί αλλά και να αξιοποιούνται επίσης στο μέγιστο βαθμό, η φυσική θερμότητα, το φως και ο εξαερισμός της περιοχής, για εξοικονόμηση ενέργειας και για μέγιστη άνεση των κατοίκων.

Ο εξωτερικός χώρος έχει σχεδιαστεί με τέτοιο τρόπο, ώστε να προσφέρει χαλάρωση και ανακούφιση από την κουραστική ζωή της πόλης. Η μεγάλη πισίνα καταλαμβάνει το νότιο πλαϊνό μέρος της κατοικίας. Τον υπαίθριο χώρο της ψησταριάς και του μπαρ καλύπτει ένα στέγαστρο που προσφέρει σκίαση, ενώ εσοχές με φυτά δημιουργούν ένα πράσινο όριο από τις γειτονικές κατοικίες. Ο περιβάλλων κήπος χρησιμοποιεί επίσης μια ευρύτερη παλέτα χρωμάτων για να δημιουργήσει ενδιαφέρον και αντίθεση μεταξύ αρχιτεκτονικής και φύσης.

Το εσωτερικό έχει σχεδιαστεί με απλές και καθαρές γραμμές. η εναλλαγή των επιπέδων στο ισόγειο σηματοδοτεί την αλλαγή των χρήσεων, οι οποίες είναι διακριτές χωρίς να παρεμβάλλεται φυσικό εμπόδιο. Υπάρχει λοιπόν η αντίληψη ενός ενιαίου χώρου που καταλαμβάνει όλο το μήκος και το πλάτος της κατοικίας. Εσωτερικά, οι χώροι διημέρευσης και γραφείο στο ισόγειο και οι χώροι ύπνου στον όροφο διαμορφώνονται με βάση το κλιμακοστάσιο. Σε αυτό το χώρο με διπλό ύψος το γλυπτικό κλιμακοστάσιο ενώνει όλες τις στάθμες της κατοικίας.

Δίνεται ιδιαίτερη προσοχή στην υλικότητα της κατασκευής και στη δημιουργία ενδιαφερόντων υφών, όπως πέτρα, σοβάς και γυαλί. Η νότια όψη είναι χτισμένη από τεράστια υαλοστάσια, που επιτρέπουν σε ολόκληρο τον κήπο να διεισδύσει στους χώρους του σπιτιού. Η διαφάνεια στο ισόγειο ενισχύει την αντίθεση με τη λευκή συμπαγή μάζα στον όροφο και τον μεγάλο πέτρινο τοίχο.  Σημαντικό συνθετικό στοιχείο αποτελούν οι κεκλιμένες οροφές με τα υπό κλίση στηθαία, προβάλλοντας τη δυναμική της κατοικίας.
