| DOUBLE STOREY HOUSE |
The house is the place where our dreams are stored. It is exciting when this is designed for young families with a specific budget, but which at the same time must meet its future needs.
The design concerned the construction of a two-storey house in a new area on the outskirts of Nicosia. The plot is symmetrical and the house was placed on the front, northern side, leaving free the rear southern and western side, to be used as a garden by the family. Morphologically, the building consists of a volume on the ground floor, which is however interrupted to create a covered terrace, which can be used simultaneously for sitting areas. The volumes created on the front and the back offer shading from the high hot summer sun.
The house includes an open space on the ground floor with the living areas, the living room and the dining room whilst in the rear, the kitchen and a play area for the children of the family are located. upstairs are the family bedrooms and the laundry.
The bioclimatic design ensures that the building consumes as little energy as possible for the benefit of the family. For this reason, openings were created on the south side for the utilisation of natural light throughout the year. Perimeter openings were also made to ensure permeable ventilation of the internal areas. The south-facing family garden offers adequate thermal comfort throughout the year while providing privacy and security.
Due to the low budget, expensive cladding options were not selected. Instead, a combination of standard coating with cool colors and stone cladding were selected at designated points at the entrance.
